Cecilia Noël & The Wild clams
and Liquid Sunshine at The Key Club
by The G Man

Putting these two bands on the same bill is like tossing sticks of dynamite into your fireplace. The music of Cecilia Noël & The Wild Clams is a wicked amalgamation of funk, salsa, mambo, pop, and Latin jazz. Liquid Sunshine dispenses with the jazz element but adds some rock power Both groups create havoc on a dance floor.

Cecilia Noël leads a 16-piece orchestra that performs tightly- woven arrangements with hard- charging excitement and plenty of groove-laced improvisations. Noël sang like a supernatural being on her one ballad, and she was a demon on all the up-tempo numbers. Their 75-minute set was musical witchcraft. The result: bodies in motion, big smiles, friendly interaction, and plenty of pelvic thrusting.

With their funk-rock approach, I Liquid Sunshine also keeps the customers satisfied, and at least one patron marveled at how much voice was coming out of petite lead singer Pamela.

(Cecilia Noël & the Wild Clams and Liquid Sunshine return to the Key Club at the end of this month; if you've got a Significant Other whose motor you need to start, this is the show to see.)
